Food Seeking
Food seeking is the collection of behaviours that enable the cat to locate prey and the associated behaviours that occur before a prey capture is made. Both sound and vision play an important role in locating prey. Cats locate prey primarily using acoustic cues such as vocalisations and the sounds of movement (Fitzgerald & Turner, 2000; Case, 2003). Once prey has been detected acoustically, visual signals come into play and the cat will keep very still waiting to detect movement of the prey. |
