Somersault

This often occurs following a chase or a pounce, as the cat pins an object. The cat’s hind limbs are brought forward, closely behind the forelimbs that are extended towards the object. The hind limbs extend, pushing the hindquarters forwards and upwards. This causes the cat’s head, already oriented towards the object, to drop lower and its body weight to shift forwards and downward. This results in the cat’s body tipping towards the floor. The cat tucks its head under its body and rolls, usually onto one shoulder, the flexed spine and forward motion bringing the hind limbs off the ground. The hind limbs and tail are brought over the head, bringing the cat into a recumbent position on the floor as the spine straightens.
