Belly up with object

The cat is laterally or dorsally recumbent, or rolling between these positions, while playing with an object. The object may be rolled on or held by the cat, or batted if above the cat.

Frequently the object is grasped in both forepaws and held to the nose or mouth, to be nuzzled, licked or mouthed. Play in this position often appears leisurely. Alternatively, raking may be triggered.

When the object is moved by an external source, for example a person moving it along the side of sofa, the cat may propel itself using its paws and claws on the furniture while remaining recumbent.
