Cats tend to kill their prey by a bite to the nape of the neck. The canine teeth are aimed so that at least one punctures the skin and carries between two vertebrae, severing the spinal cord (or destroying it with pressure) and subsequently killing the prey (Fitzgerald & Turner, 2000).
